Welcome to SnowPEx
In autumn 2020, the continuation of SnowPEx, started, focussing on conventional and recently developed snow products for the period 2015 to 2020 (SnowPEx+).
A Virtual SnowPEx+ Information Meeting was held on 3 February 2021, from 16:00 CET to 20:00 CET.
The presentations given at this Virtual SnowPEx+ Information Meeting are available as PDFs at the "Workshops" page.
The main objectives of SnowPEx are:
- Perform validation and intercomparison of satellite-based snow cover extent (SCE) and snow water equivalent (SWE) products with continental to global coverage for the years 2015 to 2020 including additionally products from new sensors, new algorithms with uncertainty information.
- Organize the 3rd International Satellite Snow Products Intercomparison and Validation Workshop (ISSPI-3), bringing together the international community on generating satellite snow products, discuss open issues and way forward. ISSPI-3 is planned for Q3/Q4 2021 (details will be provided asap)
- Prepare and deliver documentation on the validation and intercomparison activities and on the updated trends, including outreach activities to the global climate research community.
- Contribute to the advancement of procedures for snow monitoring by means of medium resolution optical sensors and passive microwave data and consolidate the estimation of trends in seasonal snow coverage.
